Conferring With Readers
Grades:K-5
Wednesday Dec.9
Conferring With Readers

Presented by: Gravity Goldberg
Gravity Goldberg is currently an instructor at Teachers College Columbia University in the department of Curriculum and Teaching as well as a doctoral candidate.

On this day, Gravity Goldberg will help support teachers who already have a strong reading workshop background and who want to take conferring to the next level. Gravity will give an overview of 6 purposes for conducting reading conferences, explain the reasons for each kind of conference, as well as guide you through the process and steps of effective conferring. In addition, Gravity will demonstrate different teaching methods to use when conferring and how to use the gradual release model to help students become more independent and effective readers and thinkers. Practical tips and tools will also be shown to help you make conferring manageable and less overwhelming. Gravity will offer several suggestions for dealing with the predictable troubles with reading conferences—keeping them short and efficient, figuring out what to focus on, helping students become more independent, and feeling more prepared without having to make so many “on the fly’’ decisions. of doing so.
This workshop will help reading workshop teachers:
  • Streamline their reading conferences
  • Make informed decisions about what kind of conferences to have and what methods to use
  • Support students in becoming more independent
  • Manage the day to day challenges of conferring in simple ways
