Hildegarde Rivera Jackson is an educator with 10 years of experience in the field of education. Her experience includes teaching in a bi-lingual pilot program and as an elementary Spanish teacher. She holds NJ State Certifications in Elementary Education, Teacher of Social Studies for 5-8, and for Supervisor in the State of NJ. She is currently the Spanish teacher in an elementary school in NJ. She is also a member of the Professional Development Committee, The Multicultural Action Team, and is the Energy Education Specialist in Warren.
Hildy received her high school diploma at Kent Place School in Summit NJ. Continuing her education, she obtained a Bachelors degree in History from Rutgers University. She then earned a Masters Degree in History from Rutgers University and is about to complete the NJ EXCEL program, a state - approved non-traditional program leading to supervisor, principal and school administration Certification.
Creating A Culturally Responsible Learning Environment: The objectives of this workshop will be to develop strategies, skills and knowledge to navigate diversity issues in schools and to increase awareness of how attitudes, beliefs, culture and language can impact learning and school performance. The workshop will focus on helping teachers create an environment in their classrooms that embraces cultural differences. Some topics that will be discussed: cultural differences, the role of adults, gestures.
