Facilitating Positive Intervention for Students Who Display Challenging Behaviors
This presentation will provide the audience with a repertoire of intervention options when dealing with students who display a continuum of behaviors, some of which are severe, challenging and do not support positive learning. These behaviors are based on the student’s prior experiences and relationships within their world. The workshop is designed to:
  • expand the understanding of the origin of challenging behaviors,

  • increase the knowledge level of participants regarding the latest research in the area of addressing challenging behaviors of students,
  • disseminate information and techniques which will assist in the identification of what constitutes a behavior disorder from that of problematic behavior,
  • offer strategies and methods for practical applications of intervention techniques that will change or minimize inappropriate behaviors,
  • present the process of developing, implementing, evaluating and modifying a Behavior Intervention Plan (also known as a Positive Behavioral Support Plan),
  • help all staff recognize their role in supporting the changing of behaviors, and
  • address the behaviors of ALL students including those with unique needs.
The presentation will be interactive, include a power point slide show that upon request can be disseminated and paper handout will be provided.
