Janna Robin was a middle school teacher for 5 years. She taught both separate and integrated social studies and reading/language arts curriculums in inclusion settings. She earned a masters degree in adolescent literacy from the School of Education at University of Pennsylvania and has completed coursework for a PhD at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education, where she studied Curriculum and Instruction. Janna taught a course in Content Area literacy to graduate level preservice teachers and supervised and mentored graduate student teachers pursuing a literacy specialist degree.
Her professional expertise includes content area literacy, using student work to drive instruction, designing formal and informal assessments, working as a co-teacher in inclusion settings, and she has trained with Grant Wiggins in Understanding by Design, which she used as a teacher and now incorporates into her presentation style. She is dedicated to helping teachers develop comfort with, and habits of, using strategic metacognitive instruction, assignments, and assessments to facilitate student comprehension and success.
