Jennifer Scoggin is currently finishing up her doctoral work at Teachers College, Columbia University in the department of Curriculum and Teaching. Previously, she taught both first and second grades in New York City for eight years. As a teacher, Jennifer was privileged to work closely with staff developers from the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project to study units in both the Reader’s and Writer’s workshop. In addition, Jennifer has a great deal of knowledge and experience with various word study programs including Words Their Way, Wilson’s Fundations and Peggy Cunningham’s Month by Month Phonics. During her time in the classroom, she wrote and implemented original social studies curriculum following the Understanding by Design curriculum model.
