June Levitan was an educator with the New York City Board of Education for 32 years and has been retired for 2 years.
During her years with the New York City Board of Education, June taught in grades pre-k thru 5th. In addition, she was a test coordinator, staff developer, and math supervisor.
As a teacher of a federally funded math program for 4th and 5th grades, June evaluated the students, developed materials, and planned for individual and group instruction using such materials as Cuisenaire rods, tangrams and squared materials. This program also placed an emphasis on problem solving and test taking skills.
She also taught a federally funded early childhood program for grades pre-k to 2nd grade included the raining of paraprofessionals, materials development, planning for paraprofessionals and planning for individualized instruction in reading and mathematics.
June has had extensive trainings and experience in an open classroom setting with emphasis on remedial instructional centers approach. She did team teaching in regular and bilingual classes.
Over the years, June facilitated workshops in math manipulative, the link between reading activities and mathematics, test taking skills and parent workshops.
