Lisa Moynihan currently works as an adjunct instructor of early literacy at New York University. For over five years, she has been conducting literacy workshops and classroom demonstrations nationwide. Her work spans from cross grade curriculum planning to one on one coaching with individual teachers on topics related to both reading and writing instruction. As an elementary classroom teacher at the Manhattan New School in New York City, her classroom served as an open lab site, where teachers and administrators would observe her literacy instruction first hand. Both her classroom and instruction are featured in Stenhouse author Tony Stead’s most recent book, Reality Checks, as well as a four part video series Time For Nonfiction and his most recently published video series Bridges to Independence, all of which highlight nonfiction literacy instruction in the elementary classroom. Her article, The Nonfiction Read Aloud: An Essential Ingredient in Student Learning, was published in the monthly publication School Talk distributed by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) in the Spring of 2005. Lisa is currently writing a book on integration in the elementary classroom which is scheduled to be released by Stenhouse Publishers in 2007-2008.
