Nicole Frogel Cohen taught third, fourth and fifth grades during her six years at Manhattan’s PS 116. While a classroom teacher, she also functioned as a math leader who staff developed her fifth grade colleagues. Since leaving the classroom, Nicole has consulted with educators in the area of hands-on mathematics, with a specific focus on the Investigations in Number, Data and Space curriculum (TERC) grades 3-5. Through modeling lessons, co-teaching and workshops, Nicole explores the constructivist approach to mathematics. Additionally, she is able to take components of such a curriculum and help teachers weave them into their present mathematics units. Nicole received a Bachelors of Arts degree in English from the University at Albany, and a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Teachers College of Columbia University.
