Amy Benjamin is a national
consultant and author specializing in language
development and literacy.

Experts agree that vocabulary is the key factor in information processing, background
knowledge, reading comprehension, and powerful writing. In this workshop, teachers of
grades 4-10 will learn research-based ways to teach vocabulary, both explicitly and implicitly.
Emphasis will be placed on how to teach the words that appear most often in academic
language, and how to allocate time to vocabulary learning.
Specific topics to include:
- Selecting words for direct instruction
- What works? What doesn't?
- How are words learned? How do they stay learned?
- Making interdisciplinary connections
- Word components
- Using visuals and manipulatives to teach and reinforce vocabulary

$100 per person |
Cancellations one week prior to the workshop date, will be refunded less a $15.00 cancellation fee. Later cancellations will receive credit towards an upcoming
workshop. Substitutions are allowed at any time.
If workshop is cancelled due to the inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled. Refunds will not be granted, but we will issue credit toward a future workshop. |
