Brad Buhrow

Brad Buhrow teaches in Colorado, where culturally and linguistically diverse first and second graders continue to help inform his theory and practice. He and his students are featured in the professional development videos, Reading the World (Goudvis and Harvey, Stenhouse, 2005) and The Primary Comprehension Toolkit, (Harvey and Goudvis, Heinemann, 2008).
Brad is co-author of Ladybugs, Tornadoes and Swirling Galaxies: English Language Learners Discover Their World Through Inquiry, (Stenhouse, 2006) a book that explores inquiry as a literacy pathway for all learners and also examines the specific needs of English learners. Brad co-authored an article on questioning for Connect, a magazine dedicated to inquiry-based learning. Brad presented at the 2007 CCIRA, NABE, IRA, and NCTE conferences. Brad participated in the 2007, Denver-based, Public Business Education Coalition’ s Research and Practice Symposium.
He will be presenting at the upcoming 2008 IRA conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
Brad’s teaching is guided by David Perkins’ core concept of educational theory, “that learning is a consequence of thinking, deep thinking.”
