Kate Abell taught math and science in NYC elementary schools for 10 years
before becoming a math staff developer in District 2 and most recently a
Region 9 lead math coach working primarily with teachers in the South Bronx.
As a math coach Kate has worked to help teachers appreciate the underlying
structure of mathematics so that their mathematics planning embraces the big
ideas that their students need to understand. She has helped teachers
develop math workshop structures in their classrooms through both direct
modeling and through content based workshops and classes.
