Kevin Tallat-Kelpsa

Kevin Tallat-Kelpsa. A veteran teacher and instructional leader for New York City public and charter schools, Mr. Tallat-Kelpsa has been featured as an exceptional educator in a number of books and conferences nationwide in literacy and math. As a lead and mentor math coach and member of the Region 9 team, Kevin has extensive experience training teachers, other coaches, and administrators in implementing a variety of math curricula including Everyday Math and Investigations (TERC.) He entered the profession as Teach For America corps member in the Bronx in 1992. Since that time, he has had the privilege of working under Shelley Harwayne as a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade teacher at the Manhattan New School, and Lucy West as a math coach for Community School District #2 and Region 9.

Currently Kevin trains teachers to use powerful data-driven assessment tools to uncover the specific needs and skills of individual students in order to design lessons that provide intervention and enrichment for the range of learners in a classroom. Kevin also works with teachers to establish easy-to-manage structures and routines that allow for flexible groupings of students to provide differentiated mathematics instruction.
