Rebecca Bascio is currently in her third year as a Literacy Coach for New York City's Region 9. She is working with teachers at a Manhattan high school. Rebecca pursued her Masters in English Education at New York University. Prior to coaching Rebecca taught Humanities in a District 2 middle school, utilizing a Balanced Literacy model. While there, she also conducted guided reading groups as a Literacy teacher for middle school children considered 'at-risk'.
As a coach, Rebecca has co-written and facilitated "Foundations of Literacy in the High School English Classroom", a 12 module course geared towards new teachers coming into Region 9. In addition, Rebecca has designed and conducted a variety of Professional Development sessions, workshops and study groups around such topics as backwards planning, literacy in the content areas, the workshop model and the linking of social studies and English via common themes and essential questions.
