Shirin Shabdin, M.A. has taught middle and high school Humanities and Literacy in Region 9 of the New York City public school system, and is currently the literacy coach.
While teaching, Shirin has successfully used workshop model to differentiate instruction, as she has four years experience in an inclusive Collaborative Team Teaching (CTT) classroom.
As a teacher-mentor, Shirin has co-facilitated “Foundations of Literacy in the Middle School English Classroom,” an introductory course for teaching reading and writing workshop for English teachers new to Region 9 schools. She has also written Literacy curriculum for the New York City Department of Education using the Understanding By Design model. She is currently a contributing author to Kylene Beers’ upcoming toolkit for teachers.
