Sneed B. Collard III is the author of the award-winning books Beaks!,
Animal Dads, Butterfly Count, and The Forest in the Clouds. Sneed has
evolved through several life-history stages on his way to becoming one
of today's leading children's authors. His first book, Sea Snakes, was
published in 1993. His thirtieth book The Prairie Builders was released
this spring and has already been named a Junior Library Guild Selection.
Sneed has more than a dozen additional books in the pipeline. Other 2005

from Benchmark Publishing, and Sneed's first novel, Dog Sense. This
spring, Sneed was awarded the prestigious Lud Browman Award from the
Friends of the University of Montana library for his lifetime
achievement in science writing. When he is not writing, he can often be
found speaking to students, conducting teacher workshops, and walking
his Frisbee-catching border collie, Mattie.
