Terri Ruyter has been an educator for almost 20 years. One of her first education courses was "Interdisciplinary Curriculum Design" with Heidi Jacobs in 1988. This course shaped her educational practice in the classroom and continues to exert a powerful influence on her professional development work with schools and teachers. A current focus of her work is on integrating literacy and the teaching of history without sacrificing the disciplinary integrity of either subject. The curriculum development work she is part of in NYC public schools strives to align instruction to New York State ELA and Social Studies standards and to integrate this instruction with the work of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. She has taught in independent schools in New York City and Santa Fe, New Mexico and is currently an instructional specialist in New York City public schools. Terri believes strongly that the mapping process is the key to deliberate and pragmatic use of multiple forms of data in order to enhance the learning experience of all students in our schools.
