Tom Schersten is a full-time national teacher-trainer for schools in
hands-on and problem solving approaches to teaching K - 10 mathematics through the modeling of the mathematics with concrete manipulatives, with the intent to actually DO the mathematics, rather than to simply WRITE the symbols of mathematics. Tom’s belief in manipulative-based math instruction is informed by four years of college mathematics; four years of teaching Title I remedial math K - 6; seven years of teaching kindergarten; three years of team teaching in a primary unit of mixed first, second, and third graders; three years of teaching eighth grade math, including algebra; eight years of full time consulting; three years of teaching a high achiever math program for grades three through six; and six more years of full time consulting.
