Whitney Lukens
has been involved in teaching and learning in New York City
public schools for over 13 years. She was a middle school science and math
teacher for 7 years, taught Methods of Teaching Science for beginning
teachers at CCNY, modeled pedagogy as a Teacher Leader for District 2 and as
a cooperating teacher for Columbia University's Teachers' College and CCNY,
and designed and implemented professional development as a Science Staff
Developer for Region 9 for 3 years. She currently works as a Learning
Specialist at a high school where she focuses on differentiated instruction
in 11th and 12th grade. She additionally has a background in the arts and
humanities, integrating literacy and the arts across the curriculum and
planning interdisciplinary curricula. She has a BA from Wesleyan University
and earned her Masters in Teaching from the New School for Social Research.
Her workshops are engaging, collaborative, honor teachers' lived experience,
and model the practices being presented.
