Jennifer McDermott
   
Jennifer McDermott is an educational consultant who works in elementary, middle and high schools. Currently, she is working with schools and districts in the Seattle area and Chicago.

She began her teaching career as a high school English teacher on the west side of Chicago and at the Academy of the Arts in the Bronx. She was also a staff developer in District 15 in Brooklyn and lead professional developer at the Center of School Improvement at the University of Chicago as well as a Senior Associate with Perry and Associates, a consulting group that works with school districts around the country.

Her work has focused on implementing balanced literacy methodology and reading, writing workshop in upper elementary, middle, and high schools. Jennifer has facilitated work with teachers around planning curriculum, conferring with high school readers and writers, and teaching research and literary analysis to struggling high school readers and writer. With high schools, her work always focuses on creating classrooms where all students have access to a negotiated high-level, content-rich curriculum.

Jennifer has also developed a course of study for literacy coaches that focuses on developing observational skills, interpreting what is observed and creating a plan with teachers based on their needs and the focus of the school or district.

She has worked in schools and districts in Haapsalu, Estonia, New York, Chicago, D.C., Corpus Christi, San Diego, Long Beach, Kansas City and the Seattle area.
