Rose Cappelli and Lynne Dorfman are co-authors of Teaching Writing Domains with Mentor Texts, a resource guide for teachers published and distributed by Reading Matters, Inc. as well as Mentor Texts: Teaching Writing Through Children’s Literature, K-6, and Nonfiction Mentor Texts: Teaching Writing Through Children’s Literature, K-8 published by Stenhouse Publishers.

This hands-on workshop will focus on the use of a variety of rich literature to demonstrate practical, classroom tested writing lessons. Emphasis will be placed on the gradual release of responsibility for writing workshop lessons that include reflection as a key component. Student writing samples will be shared.
    Participants will:
  • Explore the possibilities for keeping a writer’s notebook
  • Develop an understanding of the importance of teacher as writer and teacher modeling in the classroom
  • Learn strategies to study the craft of favorite classroom authors
  • Discover how to use mentor sentences and passages to develop an understanding of the purpose of careful editing
Registration Information:
Fee: $125 per person.
Cancellations one week prior to the workshop date, will be refunded less a $15.00 cancellation fee. Late cancellations will receive credit towards an upcoming workshop. Substitutions are allowed at any time.
If workshop is cancelled due to the inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled. Refunds will not be granted, but we will issue credit toward a future workshop.
Payment is due prior to the workshop. Fee includes seminar registration, a personalized certificate of attendance, refreshments, and a resource handbook. On-site registration is available, if space allows. Please call ahead to check on space availability.
