Sarah Buxton

Sarah Buxton first started her career as a middle school teacher in Brooklyn where she taught Reader’s and Writer’s workshops to grades 6 and 7. Sarah benefited from intense, one to one, professional development from Teacher’s College mentors for over three years. Sarah also worked closely for a number of years with staff developers from Aussie, offering her a different, yet equally strong lens into the Literacy world. Co-author of Workshop that Work!, Sarah became a lead teacher and then Literacy Coach at a Collaborative Team Teaching school. This opportunity afforded her the chance to put theory into practice, continue learning with Mary Ehrenworth from Teacher’s College and develop a strong eye for differentiation for all learners. Today, Sarah works independently as a consultant in schools in the Bronx, New Jersey, and Long Island and has traveled to Texas and Tennessee to share best practices with colleagues. Her work continues to grow. Sarah works really well with new teachers to the field as well as seasoned teachers who are new to the workshop model. Guided reading, subject area literacy and the New Common Core Curriculum are just some of her areas of expertise.
