Alan Gertner

Dr. Gertner is an Associate Professor of Audio logy and Speech & Hearing
Science in the Department of Communication Disorders and Deafness at
Kean University, Union, New Jersey. He also maintains a private
practice of Audio logy in West Orange, New Jersey. He is an ASHA
Certified Audiologist, a Board Certified Audiologist and he is a Fellow
of the American Academy of Audio logy. He is licensed to practice audio
logy in both New Jersey and New York.
Dr. Gertner received his Ph.D. from Columbia University as a Joanne
Schwartz Scholarship Recipient. His research interests are in auditory
processing, auditory language development and auditory language as
precursors to literacy. He has published articles on diverse audiologic
topics and his book, Understanding and Treating Auditory Processing
Disorders, will be available this fall through Charles C. Thomas
Publishers, Ltd.
Dr. Gertner is a frequent lecturer to schools, state organizations and
professional groups. His integrational approach to audition, language
and literacy is especially important in view of the current trend toward
early childhood education and phonetic approaches to reading.
