Barb Smith

Barb Smith currently teaches second grade at Slavens School in Denver, Colorado. She is a passionate educator with nineteen years of classroom experience and is someone who truly speaks from the heart when talking about herself and her students as thinkers and learners.

Barb has spent the past nine years reading, focusing, and reflecting on how to better understand and implement the teaching of reading comprehension strategies with children and adults. She created and co-taught the Reading with Meaning in Mind course at Regis University with Debbie Miller and was an adjunct literacy professor at the University of Denver. Barb and her students were recently featured in the professional development video Think Nonfiction! Modeling Reading and Research where she teaches alongside Stephanie Harvey and Anne Goudvis. Barb frequently opens up her classroom to host local and national labs for Denver’s Public Education Business Coalition with an in-depth focus on thinking strategies.

As a staff developer, Barb Smith inspires others to reflect on their own learning and examine the purpose of everything they do.
