Brianna Santillanes
is a former classroom teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico
and San Antonio, Texas working with diverse populations and at-risk
students. Her classroom often served as a model for teachers to observe the
strategies and routines that support quality reading and writing workshops.
She worked for many years as a reading specialist and literacy coach to
support the work of primary teachers in the areas of reading and writing.
She was also an adjunct professor, teaching pre-service teachers excellent
literacy practices.
Brianna is currently an independent literacy consultant working with K-3
teachers and administrators to provide quality professional development that
directly impacts best teaching practices. She shares strategies and
authentic student samples from her own classroom experiences to make her
workshops dynamic and practical. Her fast-paced, exciting workshops show her
passion for teaching. She empowers teachers to implement strategies and
structures that will improve and refine their own literacy instruction. Her
workshops focus on all aspects of balanced literacy. Brianna provides clear
examples and practical modeling of specific literacy strategies so that
participants can immediately implement them in their own classrooms. She
assists in unit planning, classroom coaching and improvement of literacy
instructional practices.
