Gay Ivey

Dr. Gay Ivey, a former middle school reading specialist, is an Associate Professor of Reading Education at James Madison University. She has a Ph.D. in Reading Education from the University of Georgia. Her research and teaching interests include reconceptualizing classrooms to make them more responsive to the needs of inexperienced readers and writers. She works with a variety of schools and school districts across the United States. She has published a range of articles in journals such as Reading Research Quarterly, The Reading Teacher, Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, Educational Leadership, Language Arts, Phi Delta Kappan, and Middle School Journal. She is co-author of several books including Creating Literacy-Rich Schools for Adolescents (with Douglas Fisher) from the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).
