Dr.
Joanne K. Monroe is a Director of Curriculum
and Instruction for a
School District in New Jersey. She has previously
served as a district language arts/social studies
supervisor, and as an Instructional Specialist for the
New Jersey State Department of Education. She taught
high school English for twelve years. Joanne is a past president of the New Jersey Reading
Association. She has
served as an adjunct instructor in the Graduate School
of Education at
Rutgers and at Rider University. She is a co-author of
Supporting
Struggling Readers and Writers 3-6, published in 2002 by Stenhouse
Publishers. More recent publications include "What
Expert Teachers in the
Intermediate Grades Need to Know and Be Able to Do in
the Teaching of
Literacy" in the August 2003 issue of The LSS
Review (a publication of the
Mid-Atlantic Regional Educational Laboratory) and
"Questions Teachers Ask
About Struggling Readers" in the October 2003 issue
of The Reading
Teacher.
