Karen Low
   
Karen Low is an English Language Learner Instructional Support Specialist for Region Nine in New York City. Her current position involves supporting instruction and professional development for teachers and school leaders. Prior to her current work as an E.L.L. instructional support specialist, Karen has worked with bilingual students in middle school levels as well as elementary grades for more than fifteen years. She has facilitated professional development workshops and presentations on a variety of topics, including balanced literacy, reading/writing workshop, curriculum planning, literacy in the content areas, and assessment in local, regional, and national levels. In the past two years, she has been working with Dr. DanLing Fu in a long-term professional development project involving K-12 teachers in 13 schools with a large new immigrant student population from Lower Manhattan to the South Bronx. Additionally, Karen is a member of the Language Commission in The National Council of Teachers of English.
