Katherine Casey

Katherine Casey began her teaching career at PS 116 in New York City's
acclaimed District 2 after graduating with a BA from the University of
Chicago and a Masters in Education from Teachers College, Columbia
University. At PS 116 Katherine became a math teacher leader under the
leadership of Lucy West, learned to teach reading and writing through
involvement with staff developers from Teachers College Reading and Writing
Project, and engaged in curriculum mapping with Heidi Hayes Jacobs.
Katherine has led workshops for teachers, peer coach staff developers,
principals, and instructional leaders on Balanced Literacy approaches,
standards-based planning, text analysis, monitoring student learning,
supporting English Language Learners, and curriculum mapping.
Currently Katherine works with coaches and teachers across the nation. She
is the author of Literacy Coaching: The Essentials, published by
Heinemann.
