Nicki Newton
has been an educator for the past 16 years, working in inner city schools on both the East and West coasts. She considers working with teachers and students her life work and draws upon her many years of experience as a teacher, teacher educator, and workshop facilitator to present hands-on, student centered, teacher friendly, research based sessions. Nicki has a firm foundation in best literacy practices, having spent several years teaching from a balanced literacy approach. She believes in the possibilities and opportunities that a student-friendly, interactive balanced literacy program provides to students. Over the past 8 years, she taught several reading courses at Mercy College. Currently, she is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching at Teachers College, Columbia University, specializing in Teacher Education and Curriculum Development.
