Shawn Brandon

Shawn Brandon taught for ten years at P.S. 11 in Manhattan's former District 2. While teaching at PS 11 she was fortunate enough to receive extensive literacy training through the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University. As part of her training Shawn was a member of Lucy Calkin's teacher leadership groups, where she conducted classroom based research and presentations on topics such as reading and writing workshop, conferences, small group work and the reading/writing connection.

Shawn's classroom was often used as a lab-site for research, staff developers and teachers and her students' work was featured in Leah Mermelstein’s books Reading Writing Connections in the K-2 Classroom(Addison Wesley), Don't Forget to Share(Heinemann), Launching The Writing Workshop(Heinemann). Currently, Shawn is supporting the work of primary teachers as a literacy support specialist.
